Jamie Daniels’ journey into the field of supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities began in a deeply personal and unexpected way. After running a home daycare, she transitioned into substitute teaching, where she was placed in a special education classroom—and quickly found her passion. She spent the next ten years working with students ranging from school age to 21, a period she describes as one of the most rewarding times in her career. From there, Jamie joined CCDS as a part-time Community Support Professional, steadily increasing her hours before stepping into a supervisory role. Over the past 20+ years, her dedication has remained rooted in the individuals and families she serves, helping them achieve their goals, gain independence, and experience meaningful opportunities in their lives.
One particularly meaningful example of Jamie’s impact is her dedication to creating opportunities that bring joy and connection to the people she supports. When she recognized that several individuals wanted to travel but lacked the necessary supports, she took the initiative to organize a large group trip to the Bronx Zoo, making it possible for 20 individuals to experience something that may not have otherwise been accessible to them. In addition to experiences like this, Jamie has also tirelessly managed the agency’s Holiday Giving Program for many years—an enormous undertaking that requires extensive coordination, organization, and follow-through. Through her efforts, countless families receive Christmas gifts for their children, many of whom might not otherwise have presents during the holiday season. The gratitude expressed by families year after year is a testament to the care and dedication Jamie brings to this program, reflecting her deep commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
What brings Jamie the most satisfaction is the lasting impact she has on both staff and the individuals she supports. She takes pride in building genuine relationships—so much so that even families who no longer receive services continue to reach out to her. Over the years, she has witnessed significant changes in the field, particularly the shift toward person-centered care, which focuses on individuals’ hopes and dreams rather than prescribed outcomes. Grounded in patience, compassion, and a drive to keep learning, Jamie encourages others entering the field to embrace growth and understand that every person is unique. Reflecting on her career, she is most proud of the path she has built—from CSP to Director—and remains grateful to be part of a team united by kindness, collaboration, and a shared mission to help others live their fullest lives.
