March 21, 2014 marked the 9th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day. To mark this anniversary, employees at the Pepsi Corporation in Latham, NY decided to play a part in increasing awareness of Down Syndrome and also collect money for a great cause. Bobby and his dad, who are both employed at Pepsi, took the lead in this endeavor and notified Bobby’s Service Coordinator, Brian Reilly, of CCDS of their intentions. On March 21st, Bobby and his dad, provided information on Down Syndrome and also provided an opportunity for the staff at Pepsi to donate to a collection to benefit individuals with disabilities and their families.

Bobby then came to Catholic Charities Disabilities Services (CCDS) to present the money that was raised during the March 21st event. Bobby is extremely valued at Pepsi and to say the least, is actually bit of a rock star at work. He quickly won over the hearts of us at CCDS as well. His upbeat personality was infectious.

The $500 collected from the employees at Pepsi was contributed to the Families in Need fund of CCDS. This fund is available to those served through the community-based programs of Catholic Charities Disabilities Services. The FIN fund is funding source is used to assist those who require financial help with basic and/or unmet needs. For example, we provide support with overdue utility bills so that power is restored or maintained; we’ll pay for a security deposit or one month’s rent on an apartment so that they do not lose their housing; we’ll help with purchasing groceries, school supplies, diapers/formula, and so forth.

Catholic Charities Disabilities Services provides services and supports to over seven hundred children and adults with varying developmental and related disabilities and their families within an eleven county geographic area. Individuals who have developmental disabilities, down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and/or traumatic brain injuries are eligible for our services.

Thank you to Bobby, and to all of the employees of Pepsi, for generously contributing to the Families in Need Fund of CCDS. Your efforts truly make a difference!
