Maintenance Technician

Catholic Charities Disabilities Services (CCDS), a leader in services for individuals with developmental disabilities, is hiring for a Maintenance Technician.  The Maintenance Technician is responsible for all general maintenance of the agency properties to ensure a safe, homelike environment for the individuals residing in the residences.  This position will work in unison with other departments to maintain equipment and furniture and to ensure staff have necessary hardware to do their job.

Location: Albany, Clifton Park, Niskayuna, Troy, and Schenectady

Responsibilities include; but are not limited to:

  • Ensures that grounds, building and equipment are maintained, inspected, and repaired as needed.
  • Installs small appliances and performs repairs on all appliances, unless otherwise instructed.
  • Performs all plumbing, electrical repairs, and installations.
  • Performs basic woodworking jobs and ensures safe practices when using a variety of hand tools and power tools.
  • Performs various remodeling projects, including but not limited to sheet rocking, framing, floor tile installations, painting, etc.
  • Responds to concerns of health and safety codes related to property regulations under the direction of the Director of Facilities.
  • Ensures the timely removal of snow and ice; additional hours may be required in cases of emergency such as a snowstorm.
  • Performs all landscaping functions including mowing, tree pruning, planting, etc.
  • Performs minor repairs to HVAC system.
  • Rotates on-call responsibilities as scheduled; On-call is required on a rotating basis for evening and weekend coverage.
  • Immediately reports and addresses any evidence of consumer abuse, neglect or unsafe conditions to any agency director.
  • Reports any accidents, illnesses, behavioral or emotional problems involving consumers or staff.
  • Participates in meetings as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license is required.
  • One to three years of experience as a technician is preferred.
  • Competency in basic areas of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry is required.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance or construction, including painting or patching is preferred.
