Clinical Specialist

Catholic Charities Disabilities Services (CCDS), a leader in services for individuals with developmental disabilities, has a full time Clinical Specialist position within our Clinical Department. The Clinical Specialist is a non-licensed clinical member of the Nursing team. The Clinical Specialist will be responsible for assisting the Nurse Manager, RN’s and LPN’s with managing the heath care needs of the individuals served in the agency’s Residential Program. 

Location: Capital Region

Responsibilities include; but are not limited to:

  • Provides direct support to individuals served in the agency as-needed.
  • Possess knowledge of basic medical terms, proper medication administrations, and other clinical disciplines.
  • Remains in communication with Program staff and management, providers, nurses, doctors, ER staff, case management, pharmacies, parents, guardians, advocates, school administrators and Agency leadership.
  • Monitors the storage, inventory, administration and proper recording of prescribed medications for all individuals of the Residential Program.
  • Administers and records prescribed medications following established protocols.
  • Makes arrangements in conjunction with the RN to meet the medical and health care needs of the individuals.
  • Assists RN’s in the development and maintenance of outgoing records, which will include medical correspondence and reviews for health care services.
  • Keeps RN’s informed of program needs or any issues regarding the individuals through written electronic and verbal reports.
  • Keeps on going nursing notes and documentation on all health care services received by the individuals served in the agency.
  • May be required to work extended hours or a flexible schedule with short notice.
  • Assists RN’s in maintaining on going, updated nursing care plans.
  • Participates in all team meetings for the residents.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding any and all information about residents, employees, management, advocates, outside providers and any individuals who come into contact within the course of working hours.


  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Two years of experience as a Direct Support Professional in the ID/DD field is required.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License is required
